Vantage Point Celebrates 31st Anniversary in Style

In keeping with its tradition, Residences at Vantage Point recently celebrated its 31st anniversary with a champagne reception and celebratory dinner and entertainment. Residents of the retirement community in Downtown Columbia saw the occasion as an opportunity to dress up and reconnect with friends after the months of careful social distancing and gradual reentry into the community’s social activities.

A harpist added elegance at the start of the festivities, and the dinner menu brought forth praise and admiration from diners who enjoyed soup, a choice of appetizers and entrées, vegetables, and dessert. Popular specialties included Petite Filet topped with Crab Imperial and Duchess Potatoes and Asparagus. Multi-fruit tarts completed the meal.

Entertainment, featuring the Starvation Army Band, followed the dinner. The crowd-pleasing performers included their popular washboard solo in the show.

The pandemic prevented the Vantage Point community from celebrating its 30th anniversary in the style to which it was accustomed. Residents ate alone in their apartments and watched an anniversary tribute on Zoom. All agreed this year’s celebration was a marked improvement.

Special gratitude for the celebration’s success was accorded the staff members who prepared the venue and fine dining options for the residents. The teamwork of the dining staff was especially noted.

Residences at Vantage Point is home to over 250 residents, all of whom are fully vaccinated. It was founded in 1990 and is a nonprofit serving people age 60 and above. Managed by Life Care Services, the community includes a variety of residential living arrangements from studio to two-bedroom deluxe apartments.
