Residences at Vantage Point’s Big Idea Competition

Are you a Howard County High School Student?

Do you have an idea (non-profit included), concept, service, solution, initiative, business product, or app that focuses on a societal need to address critical issues such as cyber technology and security, clean water, air, energy and environment; health, nutrition; food insecurity; senior citizen needs; sport safety; sustainability, education; community improvement or the like?

If so, this competition is for YOU!

Based on the TV show “Shark Tank”, teams of Howard County High School Students are invited to pitch their “Big Idea” to a panel of resident judges for cash prizes*! The judges will be comprised of residents who have had distinguished careers in government, industry, science, engineering, and education. They desire to provide opportunities for students in their home County to demonstrate how they can contribute to society through their innovation and ingenuity. *cash prize will be distributed evenly amongst team members.

Competition Guidelines:

  1. A team’s intention to compete must be submitted to RVP by Friday, March 22, 2024, by filling out below Application.
  2. Applications will be reviewed by resident judges. Final 5 teams chosen and announced by April 1, 2024.
  3. A Team can consist of 1-5 students.
  4. We require each team to have a school sponsor adult (teacher, counselor, Principal) that will be the contact person for notifications of finalists. Will need name of person(s) and phone number/email.
  5. In your Summary, describe the problem you are solving and why you believe it to be a problem, how big of a problem is it?
  6. Who are the customers that have this problem and what Marketing channel will you use to reach those customers?
  7. Tell us why your customers need your potential Big Idea solution.
  8. What is your solution? How does it work and what are the benefits to those that will use it?
  9. Tell us about your competitors. What do you offer that they don’t?
  10. Tell us about any milestones you have already reached with your Big Idea or plan to reach after this competition?
  11. Tell us about you and your team. Why are you the right ones to launch this venture?


Entries must be submitted to RVP by Friday, March 22, 2024. Application below. > Have the following information on hand:

  1. Big Idea Pitch Title
  2. Team Members – limit 5 per team
  3. High School Name
  4. Name of Sponsoring Teacher/Counselor and Contact Info *** We will notify this person of the final teams by April 1, 2024
  5. Detailed Summary of your Big Idea Pitch:( 5000 character maximum) *** Ownership of copyright in any work submitted for the competition belongs to the student team creators.

Thank you for your interest! However, The " Big Idea Competition" application deadline ended midnight March 15th. Finalist Sponsors will be notified by March 31, 2024 if thieir sponsored team made the Final 5 to compete on Saturday April 27th , 2024.
