Columbia Earns Perfect MEI Score for LGBTQ+ Inclusivity for the Third Year
January 17, 2025
At Residences at Vantage Point, we are proud to share Columbia’s perfect MEI score for LGBTQ+ inclusivity for the third consecutive year. This remarkable achievement reflects a steadfast commitment to creating a safe, welcoming environment for all residents, including our LGBTQ+ neighbors.
What is the Human Rights Campaign’s MEI Score?
The Human Rights Campaign’s Municipal Equality Index (MEI) evaluates cities on their effectiveness in promoting LGBTQ+ inclusion. More specifically, it rates cities across the United States on how well their laws, policies and services protect LGBTQ+ individuals. Columbia’s consistent top score of 100 underscores its role as a leader in equality and fairness.
Pierce Carey, Executive Director of Residences at Vantage Point, reflected on this milestone:
“Being part of a senior community in a city that values LGBTQ+ rights is paramount to our mission. It reinforces our goal to ensure that every resident feels safe, respected and valued.”
Columbia’s Perfect MEI Score
This year’s achievement continues a legacy of excellence for Columbia. As we shared in last year’s blog post, the city has maintained its perfect score, demonstrating commitment to continuous improvement. This consistency is more than a statistic; it is a testament to Columbia’s ongoing dedication to equality and inclusion.
A Shared Commitment to Inclusivity
Not surprisingly, Columbia’s success aligns perfectly with our own values at Residences at Vantage Point. Here, we work tirelessly to create an environment where every individual feels at home, regardless of background or identity. The city’s efforts provide a strong foundation for our initiatives, and we are proud to build upon this framework.
As we celebrate this accomplishment, we remain focused on advancing our own initiatives that support diversity and equity within our community. Columbia’s leadership inspires us to enhance our efforts, whether through inclusive policies, thoughtful programs or meaningful connections with residents. Residences at Vantage Point celebrates inclusivity every day because we know it strengthens our community and enriches our shared experience.
We extend our congratulations to the city of Columbia and thank its leaders for their unwavering dedication to equality. Together, we will continue building a brighter future for all.
